Thanks for mentioning our awesome event: Human Library @ SCL. It was incredible! People connected, learned, thought, questioned, talked, made friends.- Sylvia

Like I said in my post, it’s such a great concept!  I’ve never actually been able to attend a Human Library event myself, but I’ve read about quite a few of them and I’m keeping my eyes peeled for the next time one is announced in my area.

I’m glad your living library went well!  :D

Cheers,
Brenna

Strathcona County Library Offers Their Own "Human Library" → sclibrary.ab.ca

Strathcona County is joining a variety of other libraries and offering “Human Books.” A “Human Book” is a person with unique life experiences and interesting stories to share. You can borrow a “living book” for up to 45 minutes.

When you come to the library to “borrow” a Human Book, you’ll have an opportunity to connect with someone from our community you might not normally meet. Over a cup of coffee, hear their story and ask some questions.

I love the “human book” (also referred to as “living libraries”) concept.  What a great way to bring people in a community together and exchange real life stories and experiences between individuals from all sorts of diverse cultures, life styles, and walks of life.  It’s a fantastic way to help break down stereotypes and prejudices, and educate others first-hand about the different struggles some people are faced with.

  • More information about the human library concept can be found here:

  • Also, here are some examples of “living books” from past human library events:

I’ll definitely be checking out the next living library offered in my city.  What sort of “living book” would you be most interested in checking out?  Leave a comment!
